Fell withdraws from Thruxton 01/05/06

Mark Fell has confirmed he has withdrawn from rounds 5 & 6 of the Renaultsport Clio Cup due to lack of funds. Fell, who impressed with some excellent results on his Clio debut, will now focus on gaining the required funds to participate in rounds 7 & 8 at the Knockhill circuit in three weeks time. Mark said, “It's a funding issue that means we can't continue at Thruxton, the drive is not fully funded, therefore things like damage need to be paid for, and after the problems we had at Oulton Park we lost some of the budget we had. It's a big disappointment but we'll try hard to get back on track for Knockhill.”

Fantastic Fell flies into fourth 09/04/06

Round two of the Elf Renaultsport Clio Cup saw Mark Fell make an astonishing start from tenth on the grid as he claimed fourth position overall at Brands Hatch (Kent). Fell had come away from round one empty handed after being bundled out the race at the first corner, but keen to put that behind in round two, Fell made the start of the day to leapfrog six cars on the opening lap, and with Fell finding himself in fourth place he set about the task of reeling in the top three with a succession of fastest laps. His challenge was halted however after losing time whilst lapping Team Boulevard 's Martin Johnson. Fell came home after the twenty lap race just two seconds behind the lead group, a phenomenal result in his first weekend as a Clio Cup driver and after the problems of race one. Speaking to the large crowds at Brands Hatch straight after the race during an interview Mark stated how pleased his was with his progress,

“Its been a manic weekend, it was so disappointing yesterday to have the chance of a strong debut taken away from me, but myself and the team brushed ourselves off and we all deserve this result, it's a good platform to build on for the next round where the aim has to be a podium.”

Mark will resume his quest for Clio Cup glory at Oulton Park ( Cheshire ) for rounds three and four of the Elf Renaultsport Clio Cup on May 12/13 th

Fell left fuming after round one incident 08/04/06

It was the first round of the Elf / RenaultSport Clio Cup and Mark Fell was left fuming after he was bundled out of race one at the first corner. After qualifying in eighth place for the first of two championship races at Brands Hatch, Fell made an excellent start, entering the paddock hill corner in fifth position. But his fortunes were about to change as he was unceremoniously hit from behind by Pyro Motorsport's Mark Hunt. Damage to Fell's exhaust, silencer and fuel pump forced him into retirement on lap four. Fell expressed his disappointment after the race,

“I got a great start, went into paddock hill behind my team-mate Stephen Colbert and just felt a big hit from behind, it span me round and I was hit again. I'm disappointed in the behaviour shown by Hunt and he admitted the contact to the officials.”

It was an encouraging start for Fell however; who has been blighted with problems throughout the testing schedule meaning he only managed around 100 testing laps all winter. An eight place grid slot looked likely to be improved upon in Saturday's race. Fell will now turn his attention to Sunday's race from which he starts tenth on the grid.

Race two from Brands Hatch will be shown on Motors TV (sky 413) at 18:30 on Sunday

Mark out of luck in testing 04/04/06

Mark's preparations for round 1 of the Renaultsport Clio Cup have been hampered by major mechanical problems. During the last official test at Snetterton on Wednesday (29 th March) Mark had an engine failure meaning he could only complete a handful of laps. The failure leaves Mark with less than 100 laps of pre season testing; leaving him at a distinct disadvantage over the rest of the field.

“Some of the teams have done 10 times the testing I have, it's been frustrating but theses things happen in racing. I know there is a lot to come from myself and the car” Mark said, “Brands Hatch this weekend will be a steep learning curve but I'm confident I can come away with some championship points”

Mark starts his 2006 season at Brands Hatch this weekend (8 th /9 th April)
